Youthact Club:
Sponsored By The Thibodaux Rotary Club
One of our activities for this year was our annual participation at a community Fall celebration at a local church. Every year they have an event called the Pumpkin Patch, where children can participate in several activities including painting pumpkins.
My group volunteers by managing the activity stations they have setup inside and outside of the church’s courtyard. The members enjoy helping the children play the games and have even found hidden talents such as creating balloon animals!
Another big event that we participated in this year is an extension from last year. Last year, we conducted a school-wide shoe drive. The idea originated from a local group called Visions Out-Reach Community Program.
It was a great idea and I knew it would be a great community contribution and collaboration. It was a success! We received shoes from our school as well as from NSU. When we did the drive last year, the weather was not cooperative. However, this year the weather cooperated and we switched location to Peltier Park.
We had a very good turnout. People came from 10am – 2pm to get shoes, clothing, diapers, school supplies, and food. It was a very good event and we helped “shoe” and give needed supplies to a number of children and adults.
Thanks!
